Ferrets, and life in the wild.

According to “Ferret University”, ferrets don’t much like baths.  That’s no big surprise: i can’t think of any animals that really do like being dunked in water and scrubbed with unnatural foamy stuff by those friendly giants who sometimes provide food.  But ferrets, apparently, carry this to a whole new level.

Ferrets like nice warm/hot water. Bath water that’s “warm enough… will help keep your ferret calm during the bath.”  So they get antsy in cold water – so do I, come to think of it.

“Most of them become a bit nervous when they aren’t the ones who’ve chosen to jump in the water.”  Fair ’nuff.  Unexpected baths are out.  Cold shampoo is also out; more on the body temperature thing.

Now comes the fun part: “Running water can sometimes startle a ferret.”  So not only do they dislike cold sudden dunkings, they don’t expect water to move.  This suggests the question: what’s a ferret’s life like in the wild?  It must be one long horror movie…

run run run food run eat run run food mmm eat mate run run run… AAAAAAGH!!!! WATER! THAT MOVES! UNDER MY PAWS!!!! *ferrety fit* run run run run AAAAAAAGHHH! MORE WATER! AGAIN!!!! AAAAAGH!!!!

So, animal cruelty folks take note – it’s really a kindness to keep them in homes, safe from unexpected running water and other startlesome things.
