Kerry on the eclipse
“This just goes to show how much the country — how much the world needs a change on Nov. 2,” Sen. Kerry didn’t actually say while speaking to a group of supporters in some state his strategists thought would be important. “Look up at the sky! Bush has let his big business cronies turn the moon bright orange with pollution and acid rain. Well, I’m here to tell you that President Kerry wouldn’t have let that happen! President Kerry would’ve done whatever it takes to keep the moon shiny and bright!”
A junior science staffer pulled the senator aside to point out that the unusual appearance of the moon was actually due to the lunar eclipse.
“The Republicans would have us believe this sort of thing is natural!” Kerry told his audience a few minutes later. “But I challenge them to prove it! See? They can’t prove they aren’t responsible — this is the party of Halliburton and Enron, remember! I assure you and I assure the American people - this kind of ‘natural’ event will never happen with President Kerry at the helm!”
A spokesman with the Bush campaign pointed out that the next lunar eclipse is actually scheduled for 2007. A spokesman with the Kerry campaign responded “How can they know — unless it’s all their doing in the first place?”
