Testing wp-gallery2

Now that Gallery 2 is getting more mature, I decided to give it a try. (I’m still running version 1 for now, so any new pictures will get added to both.) Looks pretty good so far.

Also, there’s a new plugin to integrate the new Gallery into WordPress. Still being developed pretty heavily, and the documentation is pretty poor… but it works for now. Mostly. And I’d wanted something to show a random image on the sidebar for a while now.

If it breaks or doesn’t look right or whatever, leave a comment?

We’d like to see the pictures integrated into the site, but it isn’t quite there yet. Specifically, we cannot get the meerkat picture, and others which look to be intended to be in-lined, rather than in a page by themselves. I did look in the gallery at the latest, and was pleased by the windbird and WV scene, but puzzled by the bird/scarecrow(?, perhaps?) on the park bench. Maybe he keeps pedestrians and pigeons off.

Apparently it doesn’t work too well in IE 5.5, no surprise.

Gallery2 also has a built-in “sidebar” option, for use in other sites, so I replaced the plugin version of that with the built-in code. Works much better now, looks like, so I’ll probably keep it that way for good. (The plugin also offers a way to integrate G2 pics into a post, in roughly the same way as Geoff Hutchison’s plugin for the original Gallery, but not as well yet.)

This site employs the Wavatars plugin by Shamus Young.
