Back to normal

Now that all the thesis stuff is over and done with, it turns out that having a certificate saying I’ve got a PhD (it’s even got a gold star!) doesn’t really change life much at all. Not that I was expecting it to. And so it’s back to normal Friday night stuff — work til 6, go to the gym, come home and talk to Cathy over dinner. And now I get to curl up with the manual from the developers’ kit from Andor — my “between” project for my “old” advisor is to beef up the imaging software and that means rewriting it all in LabVIEW. (Which is what we should’ve done from the start, but now my time is a lot more disposable and he can get it done without paying the department’s Labview expert three times as much. Which is good, because *I* know exactly what it needs to do. It’s easier to figure out how to write the program myself than to write specifications that lead to a program that’s never quite what we actually wanted. Sorry, Steve, but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.)

Oh, I start July 1st on the postdoc (yay!) so I gotta hurry up and figure out where to take some vacation time while I still can…. NC here I come… :)
