On the road
Goin’ out of town this week, so no “science post” this week. (I’m trying to do at least one science post and one personal post a week. Or at least it’s a long-term goal.) Top priority: Talking Cathy into playing hooky after lunch Thursday afternoon. Not sure it’ll happen, though; she took yesterday off to hold her sick doggie’s paw, and she’s conscientious/devoted/hard-working enough that she’s gonna resist pretty firmly. Also on the agenda: Bristol TN to pick up a new bumper sticker and t-shirt from my alma mater, Richmond VA for lunch with my dear doting auntie, and WV to pick up my practically-brother. And home this weekend sometime.
It is no fun at all when she calls after getting about 4 hours sleep in the last 3 days and she’s already used up all her cell phone minutes but she calls anyway just to talk to me. Or rather, *that* I can handle. The hard part is having all my “boyfriend buttons” pushed so hard but knowing there’s nothing at all I can do except pray for them both, because I’m 15 hours away from being able to do anything more concrete. When she said she was hesitant about a long-distance relationship, I figured it was just that it’s tough staying in touch, and well, we’ve got phones and stuff. Being so far from her side when it counts…. that’s what she was afraid of. And there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it. Right now.
