The local power company is being so nice this holiday season as to offer … gift certificates! A crass attempt to cash in on holiday spending? No no, it’s a benevolent gesture so that people can let each other know they care by sending $10-$100 towards a friend or loved one’s heating bill.
Actually, I think that the gift certificates should be for a specific amount of energy. “Thanks to Uncle Timmy, we’ve got an extra 250 kWh to start out the New Year right!” “Yaaaaay!”
I’m really hoping that other utilities follow the power company’s lead on this — next year, maybe we’ll be able to tuck “1000 gallons of potable water” into stockings…
