very uninspired

I’ve felt rather unmotivated lately — particularly when it comes to updates here. Part of this is just a lack of time; part is a lack of new stuff to write about. Still, I did resolve to either do at least one update a week, or else to post a specific reason why. Hopefully I can come up with one post’s worth of stuff per week… if not… well, at least now I’ll have a prepared excuse. That said… Christmas reviewed!

Random Christmas vacation wrapup:

* I officially no longer recognize my home town. The county has grown somewhere between 50 and 100% over the past 10 years or so since I last lived there full time. Since it’s Florida, that involves a lot more upscale housing developments being built on top of swamps, and a lot more chain restaurants and stores. (”Give us a Best Buy,” the people said, “so we can be like all the other towns!”) There are sidewalks in my neighborhood. The woods I used to play in are just about gone. All my schoolteachers are retired. So now it’s just sort of where my parents live.

* Favorite *useful* activity over break: Helping to spackle my parents’ new shower. I got to play with mud! and sticks! and pound nails into the wall! And they *wanted* me to do it!

* Most effective gift given: The ladybug steering-wheel cover for my sister’s car that made her (the sister, not the car) go “eeeeeeee!”

* Rented an Elantra to get back from the airport to town — it’s far cheaper than a taxi or airport parking. I was not pleased. Mushy pedals and I could either have the headrest in a comfortable position, OR I could turn my head to see out the back window. And who decided that “someone’s using the key to unlock the passenger door!” means “someone’s breaking in!”? Gaaaaah. I’ll keep my Protege until they pry the cold dead steering wheel from my hands, thank you. But I hear it works pretty nicely for some people :)
