A Resolution Against Solar Cycles
Feb 12th 2008Wallabynerd alert & rants
Solar activity comes in regular cycles, but the latest one is refusing to start. Sunspots have all but vanished, and activity is suspiciously quiet. The last time this happened was 400 years ago — and it signaled a solar event known as a “Maunder Minimum,” along with the start of what we now call the “Little Ice Age.” ….. The key factor isn’t changes in solar output, but rather changes in the sun’s magnetosphere A stronger field shields the earth more from cosmic rays, which act as “seeds” for cloud formation. The result is less cloud cover, and a warming planet. When the field weakens, clouds increases, reflecting more light back to space, and the earth cools off.
From a summary in DailyTech.
Now, we need someone to organize a protest of the sun, and someone at the UN to introduce a Resolution Condemning the Solar Magnetosphere (in the strongest possible terms), and…
… and a million environmentalists to accept the idea that drastic decisions based on fear and inadequate data aren’t necessarily the best way to ‘save the earth’.
Unfortunately the UN Resolution Against the Sun is more likely.
Nice. I hate this whole “global warming” thing. I wish it would go away! But alas, the hearts of humans are swayed by the loudest voice, especially when the voice stirs fear and doubt.
So are we going to organize a rally against the Sun? Ooh I know… let’s go blow it up! That’ll solve the problem of this global warming thing!
